Planetary hours represent an ancient system of astrological time. Unlike our standard civil hours, which always have exactly 60 minutes, the length of a planetary hour is variable.
This system is based on real natural cycles. The day does not start at midnight, but exactly at the moment of sunrise, and ends at sunset. This daylight period is then divided by twelve, creating 12 daytime planetary hours. The remaining time, from sunset to the next sunrise, is also divided by twelve, creating 12 nighttime planetary hours.
In practice, this means that in the summer, when the days are long, a daytime planetary hour is much longer than 60 minutes, and a nighttime hour is shorter. In winter, it is exactly the opposite. Each of these hours is sequentially ruled by one of the seven traditional planets (Sun, Venus, Mercury, Moon, Saturn, Jupiter, Mars). This sequence is known as the Chaldean order.

Because the length of an astrological hour is calculated strictly from sunrise and sunset, it is critically important to know exactly where you are. The sun rises at a different time in Prague compared to Ostrava, or New York compared to London.

The integrated Timezone function also handles all historical daylight saving and standard time shifts, ensuring your results are always 100% accurate, even for calculations in the past.
How to Find Planetary Hours (Step by Step)
Finding the ruler of the day and a specific hour is very easy. Moreover, the system securely remembers your entered data using cookies, so you only need to fill them in once, and they will be pre-filled on your next visit.
- Enter the calculation date: Choose the day for which you want to find the hours (the default is today). You can also select future dates for event planning.
- Select your location in the atlas: Start typing the name of your city into the search bar so we can accurately determine the sunrise and sunset times in your area.
- Enter custom coordinates: If you are in a remote area or a location missing from the atlas, you can enter the latitude and longitude manually. Alternatively, you can find the nearest city in the atlas.

Why are only 7 planets used in the app?
The planetary hours system is very ancient and is based on traditional astrology (the Chaldean order). At that time, astrologers only knew the planets visible to the naked eye from Earth. Therefore, only the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, and Saturn are used. Modern outer planets (Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) are not included in this daily cycle.
Why does the time of the first morning hours in the table change according to the season?
Because the astrological day does not start at midnight, but at sunrise. In summer, the sun rises early, so the first daytime planetary hour begins earlier. In winter, when the sun rises late, the first hour begins several hours later. The sunrise also always determines which planet is the main ruler of the entire day.
Can I find the planetary hours for events in the future?
