The Runes or the runic alphabet is the oldest written system of Germanic tribes. Their history dates back to the beginning of our era. Some evidence suggests that runes might even be older.
Each rune represents one letter, and the whole rune system thus forms an alphabet of 24 characters called Futhark. Futhark originates from the first six rune characters - Fehu, Úruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raido, Kenaz.
The runes are given a divine origin. In one of the essential works of Norse mythology, it is said that the god Odin sacrificed himself to attain higher knowledge and then shared his knowledge (Runes) with people.
The runes were not only used to write texts; they were also widely used for magical purposes, such as divination, protective talismans, and even healing.
